The Client Naval Academy , prestigious institution training Naval officers in India . The trainee cadets goes through rigorous training along with studies in academic and service subjects. The academy boasts of a scenic campus with an impressive IT infrastructure. The Challenge Creation of a campus wide intranet based content delivery system for the learning materials .The content creation and indexing to be done by the faculties and the head-of-faculties as per the rights given by the administrator. The content involves diverse formats like PowerPoint presentations , flash animations , pdf docs , custom CBTs and WBTs ranging few KBs to GBs at times. Apart from a material delivery system tracking of the sessions conducted and the material used in each was another requirement . The tracking of materials accessed by the cadets and the trends of the same was needed to improve upon the education delivery. Due to the specialized nature of the education imparted there was a need to give a test platform to evaluate the students in a regular basis , the testing system had to be designed to give valuable feedbacks to the faculty in ascertaining the difficult areas in the portions taught. There was absence of a common medium to share the knowledge and trigger off thought provoking discussions the E learning platform was to be designed to address this issue as well Solution Our analysis suggested an intranet ware that, while incorporating the organizational structure and workflow is capable of making use of the high speed network infrastructure. The storage structure and indexing of the learning material was an important consideration here as to enable manual backups if required. The design criteria were polished after a number of brainstorming sessions with the users. The Result The implementation of the software provided much needed value addition to the IT infrastructure of the base. The learning materials , stored at a central repository provided round the clock access to the interest groups with varying permissions - Organized storage and access
- Reduced dependence on other storage media to carry materials to classes.
- Preparation of a e-Learning plan and schedule
- Statistics on usage of Learning Materials
